First Step Community

First Step is a nonprofit charitable organization focused on helping families without a secure and safe place to live take their first step toward a more stable living situation. This is a transitional housing program in Florence, Oregon that will help participants set and achieve individual goals appropriate for their own family situation. First Step Community resources and programs are designed to encourage successful living.

First Step now has a "village" of three trailers located behind the Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw on Hwy 101 in Florence, Oregon.

The First Step Community is a pilot program that will place three trailers for temporary homes on the Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw property. They are to be occupied by vetted families in need of housing who will be supported and monitored. It will be a transitional home community based on five basic rules:

1. No violence to themselves or others.
2. No theft.
3. No alchohol, marijuana, illegal drugs, or drug paraphernalia.
4. No persistent disruptive behavior.
5. Everyone in the program will contribute to the operation and maintenance of the First Step Community.
